RE: A CRY FOR HELP BY A PHARMACY STUDENT
The attention of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Madonna University has been drawn to a publication on facebook by a student of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Madonna University, even though he/she refused to reveal his/her identity.
Having said that, we wish to reiterate the commitment of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Madonna University to maintain the laid down standards by NUC and PCN for training of Pharmacists and we will not compromise those standards for any reason whatsoever.
The regulations guiding the conduct of qualifying examinations were from inception articulated by eminent professors of pharmacy of both national and international reputations and remained same. The regulations were approved by NUC and PCN, which is to the effect that courses registered and sat for must be passed to be qualified and that student(s) who failed two or more qualifying courses have no option of resit as stated in the students' academic handbook of Faulty of Pharmacy, Madonna University. It may be that the student in question did not perform well enough and would therefore be required to repeat a level, to be put through the courses.
Furthermore, the Faculty in keeping with laid down standards have sufficient qualified personnel and facilities to run the Pharmacy programme of the institution. Madonna University engages the services of eminent professors from other great institutions of pharmacy within Nigeria and outside Nigeria for cross breeding of ideas in order to continue to keep pace with global trends in pharmacy education/training and the standards. It would therefore be most unfair and quite mischievous to allege that the faculty has no single professor and to make further assertion that a single staff of the faculty dictates what goes on in the faculty, especially where there is an effective faculty board that takes decisions for the faculty.
It is therefore most unfortunate for somebody to misunderstand these issues but instead of asking for clarification, goes about publicizing the faculty and by extension the university in bad light.
Finally, we admonish the writer of the said facebook post to discontinue forth with such unnecessary false publication and instead seek clarification or report any grievance to the university authority or better still channel his/her effort towards clearly and completely passing the qualifying examinations.
