The Department of Electrical / Electronics Engineering is in the Faculty of Engineering, within the Madonna University, Elele Campus, Rivers State.
The department will offer a five year programme leading to the degree of B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. During the first and second years of the programme, the student takes courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer programming / languages, biology and other foundation courses, which are common to some departments in the university. Thereafter, the student then concerntrates on the core departmental courses in electrical and electronic engineering. The long vacation of the third year and the first semester of the fourth year are devoted to industrial attachment during which the student works and learns in an industrial environment. In the fifth year, the student concerntrates on an area of specialisation and also undertakes a development or design project leading to a mandatory thesis before graduation.
The department will train engineers who will immediately upon graduation become useful as problem solvers, designers or product engineers able to participate actively in the engineering process , and to translate their knowledge into practical and meaningful products. Of course, such a high objective demands from the student a thorough knowledge of the basic science and mathematics which from the foundation on which engineering principles are built and also an attitude on the part of the student to always want to relate his studies to actual and practical situations.
