The Department of Computer Science is one of the departments in the Faculty of Education / Arts, within the Madonna University, Okija Campus.
However this programme will be awarded with B.Ed. for degree graduates. The degree is aquired through course work and project / research report.
The science education unit is primarily concerned with the production of competent and dedicated teacher in computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, integrated science and mathematics. Towards this end, the programme is designed to provide;
A sound academic preparation in the science disciplines and mathematics.
Theoretical understanding and practical skills in the development, implementation and evaluation of secondary school science and mathematics curriculum which meet both the needs of the learner, society and changing times.
Every student in the programme is expected to take core courses in education, courses in one to the optional science disciplines or mathematics and courses in science methods. It is expected that on successfully equipped:
Teach one of the science subjects, mathematics or integrated science in the secondary school;
Develop challenging, age appropriate science and or mathematics curriculum relevant to the needs of the students and the society at large.
Use various forms of tradition and alterative assessment techniques to monitor, enhance and evaluate student learning.
Perform administrative and supervisory duties within the country’s educational system with particular reference to his /her teaching subject.
Continue advanced studies in science education or in his subject of specialization

A candidate seeking admission in the department of science education must meet one or more of the following University general requirement:
For JAMB entrance examination candidates five GCE (ordinary) level or WASC or Grade 11 teachers certificate subjects passed at credit level in not more than two sitting.
For direct entry candidates;
Five credits at GCE O Level or TC II and two passes at principal level in HSC or GCE Advanced level.
National Diploma with a cumulative grade point of no lower than 2.50 (on a 4.0 point scale) or an equivalent qualification.
NCE, HND or a degree. For admission into science Education, the candidate must meet the university general requirements and obtain a credit in English and mathematics.
Candidate admitted through JAMB entrance examination enrol in a four year degree second year of the four year programme.
